KIDS MARKET, MUSIC AND CANNING AT FARMERS MARKET THIS SATURDAY
06-19-2015

The Downtown Fond du Lac Farmers Market is a favorite destination for farm-fresh produce, local shopping, and community socializing. This year, the Saturday Market will feature free music and educational activities on a weekly basis. On June 27, the Farmers Market will feature a Kids Market, the “Let’s Get Jammin’” canning demonstration, and music to “Bring Back Memories” by Brian Leffin.

Sponsored by Essential Rock Church, the Kids Market will be located in front of Berger Courtyard near the entrance to Finn’s Fresh Market. Children can enjoy bubbles, chalk and this month’s special craft: Paper Plate Animals. The Kids Market will be featured on the last Saturday of every month.

Also, join Amanda Miller, WI Nutrition Education Coordinator from UW-Extension, as she guides you through all you need to know when canning your jams and jellies. This “Let’s Get Jammin’” session is the first in her “Safely Preserving Wisconsin Harvest” series. Demonstrations will take place at 9:30 and 11 a.m. on the southwest corner of 2nd and Main in front of National Exchange Bank and Trust. Amanda will be available from 8-Noon to take questions, work with shoppers one-on-one, and offer free dial-gauge pressure canner testing (dial only, not weighted). Even brand new pressure canners are recommended for testing! Additional preservation workshops will take place at the Farmers Market on July 25, August 22, September 26, and October 24.

Other monthly educational programs include Shopped and Chopped with Chef Jon, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Family Fun, and Wellness Workshops with Agnesian. All demonstrations will take place at 9:30 and 11 a.m., but the educators will be on site all day to take questions and work with Farmers Market shoppers one-on-one. The full season’s schedule of activities and music is available at www.downtownfdl.com.

The Farmers Market is sponsored by Agnesian Healthcare and United HealthCare Community Plan, and is a program of the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership. The mission of the partnership, a Wisconsin Main Street community, is to establish a diverse, prosperous and healthy district that is the social, commercial and cultural heart of our community.
